Nasher Museum of Art

Explore the Nasher Museum of Art’s three galleries including an exhibit of 34 Alexander Calder masterworks paired with seven contemporary artists. We will have lunch in the Museum Café before returning. Museum admission included.

Manteo, NC

Visit the Elizabethan Gardens and see what’s blooming. We will finish the afternoon off at the Roanoke Island Aquarium which has the state’s largest collection of sharks, and a new sea turtle program. Admissions are included.

Explore North Carolina’s pottery capital. Over 100 privately owned potteries specializing in hand crafted ware both functional and sculptural for visitors to enjoy or purchase. Spend the day in the rolling foothills exploring individual shops and galleries.

Craftsmen Fair, Winston Salem, NC

The Piedmont Craftsman’s fair showcases more than 130 fine artisans from across the southeast. Works in clay, fiber, leather, jewelry, wood, glass and more will be available for purchase as well as various demonstrations. Admission included.

Colonial Williamsburg, VA
December 15th

Join us as we explore historic Williamsburg. Scores of original buildings, hundreds of homes, shops, and public buildings are reconstructed over 301 acres—most on their original foundations. Rare animal breeds, trades, and gardens add layers of authenticity to the re-created town. Admission included.

Japanese Embroidery

Instructor: Carl Newman

Originating in China, this thousand year old needle art was refined and perfected in Japan for decorative objects and especially for kimono and obi. The embroideries are worked on silk and fabric held in a wooden frame. The stitching is done with silk and metal threads using Japanese needles and other tools. Carl Newman is certified by the Japanese Embroidery Center in Atlanta and has many years of teaching experience. Stitchers of all skill levels are welcome, but pre-registration is required.

Silk! Dye it, Paint it, Feel it, Love it.

February 25th and 26th
$80 city resident / $85 non-resident ($25 material fee paid to instructor)
Participants will experiment with a number of silk painting techniques and become comfortable with a fabric sometimes considered intimidating. We will focus on using textile flowable paints, fiber reactive dyes and resists. The class will also offer a few quick dye methods. These techniques will result in wonderful wearables, beautiful yardage and unique pieces of art.

Watercolor
Linda Griffin
March 3 and 4
$150 city resident / $180 non-resident
Creating a watercolor using architectural detail with use of flowers or trees. Design will be emphasized. No drawing skills needed. *Bring a clear photo of a house or building you like. We will design part of that picture into a painting. This will not be a stressful rendering class...let’s make it fun and use bold color!

Celebrations

Make your next party an Art Party!!! Birthday parties, office parties, girl's night out or any other special event. The Arts Center provides all the materials and the instructor; you provide the people and the extras (cake, gifts, etc.) Call 252-972-1632 to make your reservation.

Party Themes Include:

Clay Creation:
Don't be afraid to get your hands in the mud at this party. Create your own one-of-a kind ceramic piece.

Recycle:
Art is made with all kinds of materials. Use recycled objects to create robots, bottle cap flowers, and much more.

Edible Art:
By the time this party is over you won't need cake. Use everyday edible materials to create unique works of art.

Celebration Rates:
$10.00 per person for 1 - 12 guests
$8.00 per person over 12 guests
Minimum 6 guests
Celebrations include refreshment room, instructor, and 1½ hour program with supplies. Celebrations can be altered to accommodate ages 5 and up and can be scheduled any day of the week between 10:00am and 7:00pm. Reservations must be made two weeks in advance.
