EXHIBITION OPPORTUNITIES
Visual artists may submit proposals for exhibition throughout the year. Submissions must contain a minimum of 10 digital images, artist resume, and an exhibition proposal or statement of purpose. Our exhibits rotate each Spring (January – May), Summer (May – September), and Fall (September – January). Exhibitions are curated 2-3 years in advance.

The Maria V. Howard Arts Center hosts three national juried exhibitions annually. To receive a prospectus and specific information for any show, call 252-972-1163, email arts@imperialcentre.org, or click on the appropriate button following the show’s title and description below.

The Juried Art Show (JAS)
The prospectus for this multi-media fine arts exhibition will be released in February and the exhibition held in June – September.

Awards:
$1200 - Acquisition Award
$700 - First Place
$400 - Second Place
$200 - Third Place
$200 - Best Rocky Mount Artist
Six $100 Merit Awards

Purchase Award: The work selected for the Purchase Award will become part of the Arts Center’s Permanent Collection. Any artist not willing to accept the $1,200 award must submit a written statement to declare their work not eligible for this award. This statement must be submitted at the time of entry. Works not for sale will be ineligible for the award.

Media: Open to all media except installations.

Eligibility: Open to all U.S. artists 18 years of age or older. Work must be original and executed within the past three years. Work must not have been previously exhibited at the Arts Center. Entry in this exhibit establishes an agreement on the part of the artist to all conditions listed in the prospectus.

Entry Fee: Each artist may submit digital images of a maximum of four works. Two additional detail shots of each work is permissible. A non-refundable entry fee of $25 must accompany the entry form and images.


The Sculpture Salmagundi
The Prospectus for this annual outdoor sculpture exhibition is released in May. The exhibition is installed in August/September and remains on the grounds for one year.

Awards:
$1000 honorarium is awarded for each of ten sculptures.
$1000 Best In Show Award selected from the installed works.

Media: Outdoor/Public sculpture with the ability to withstand weather and public interaction for one year.

Location: Works will be displayed on the grounds of the Imperial Centre for Arts and Sciences in Rocky Mount, NC.

Eligibility: Open to all U.S. artists 18 years of age or older. Work must be original and executed within the past three years. Work must not have been previously exhibited at the Arts Center. Entry in this exhibit establishes an agreement on the part of the artist to all conditions listed in the prospectus.

Entry Fee: Each artist may submit digital images of a maximum of three works. Two additional detail or orientation shots of each work is permissible. There is no entry fee.


Handcrafted
The prospectus for this wide-ranging fine craft exhibition will be released in October and the exhibition held January-May.

Awards:
$1000 - Acquisition Award
$300 - First Place
$200 - Second Place
$100 - Third Place

Media: Traditional and non-traditional craft media including but not limited to: ceramics, fiber, glass, metal, wood, paper, or any combination of craft media.

Eligibility: Open to all U.S. artists 18 years of age or older. Work must be original and executed within the past three years. Work must not have been previously exhibited at the Arts Center. Entry in this exhibit establishes an agreement on the part of the artist to all conditions listed in the prospectus.

REGIONAL ARTIST PROJECT GRANTS
The Regional Artist Project Grants are awarded to artists throughout eastern North Carolina in 29 counties, and is a grants program partially funded by the North Carolina Arts Council.

Eligible artists include North Carolina residents who have resided in eastern North Carolina for at least 2 years in the following counties: Beaufort, Bertie, Camden, Carteret, Chowan, Craven, Currituck, Dare, Duplin, Edgecombe, Gates, Greene, Halifax, Hertford, Hyde, Jones, Lenoir, Martin, Nash, Northampton, Onslow, Pamlico, Pasquotank, Perquimans, Pitt, Tyrrell, Washington, Wayne, and Wilson counties. Artists can include musicians, dancers, filmmakers, actors, literary artists, as well as visual artists. The average grant award is between $500 and $1,000.
